In Greene County district court Ignacio Melendez Leiva, 45, of Perry was sentenced to 180 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation for one year to the Greene County sheriff. He must complete a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He must also complete a community college drinking driver’s course. In lieu of that course and the jail time he may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program. Melendez Leiva was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. He must pay $47.60 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $157.77 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
John Clayton Cook, 55, of Fort Dodge was sentenced July 14 to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of fraudulent practice- second degree. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for two years. Cook was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay $400 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $242.98 court costs. A charge of gambling- avoid setoff was dismissed. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Nathan Allen Taylor Martin, 47, of Carroll was sentenced July 14 to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of passing winning wager to another person. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for two years. Martin was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay $400 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. A charge of fraudulent practice- second degree was dismissed. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Samantha Monique Henderson, 30, of Jefferson was sentenced to two years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine- second offense. The prison term was suspended and she was placed on probation to the Department of Corrections for two years. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. Henderson was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge. She must also pay an amount not to exceed $500 for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $136.50 court costs. A charge of possession of marijuana- second offense was dismissed, as was a charge in magistrate court of possession of drug paraphernalia. (Sentencing; McCarville)
Mitchell Kenneth Venteicher, 38, of Jefferson was sentenced to 30 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)
